I’m not racist. But all those bloody foreigners are.
The inane ramblings of Eddie McGuire, who finds his own breakfast radio show so dull even he was having difficulty staying awake, has again raised the question as to whether Australia is a racist country.
The overwhelming opinion seems to be that, individually, we are not racist but (insert your own racist comment here).
It seems strange that likening an aboriginal footie player to King Kong, a very large ape, was just meant as a joke. For example, where’s the punch line?
Yet racism is rampant. I’ve even been guilty of it myself, in the name of satire. I ask, in this week’s podcast, whether I was equally in the wrong. If I was President of the Collingwood football club I would be offering my resignation right now.
It’s not all negative bitching about racism, though. There’s positive stuff in the program – like Bill Gates’ quest to save the planet, a dead koala called Dick Smith and what people are petitioning for on the White House website.
